4 Ways to Deal with Receding Gum Lines

by Harold Coleman

If you have receding gum lines, then your first step toward dealing with the issue is to get into the dental office so the dentist can give you a complete exam and determine the cause. Then, they can help you with possible treatments and advice to help you deal with the problem correctly. Until you go to the cosmetic dentist, there are things you can do to decrease the likeliness of the situation getting much worse in the meantime.

Keep your mouth as clean as possible.

One of the more common reasons for receding gums is gingivitis. If you have gingivitis the situation can get worse, but getting on your oral hygiene and keeping your teeth as clean as possible can prevent the situation from getting worse in the near future, giving you some extra time until your dental appointment date arrives. Make sure you are brushing at least two times a day, use mouthwash and brush an extra time if you eat something with a lot of sugar.

Be gentle on your teeth and gums.

While you want to brush more, you also want to make sure you are using a soft bristle toothbrush and using gentle strokes. Sometimes gums recede from brushing your teeth too aggressively and if this is the case, then you want to avoid doing so from this point forward.

Keep your mouth as moist as you can throughout the day.

If you tend to have a dry mouth a lot, then that can be what is causing the problem. Just in case this happens to be the situation in your case, you want to begin making sure that you do your best to fix the situation. Stop drinking anything that can lead to a drier mouth like alcoholic beverages, sodas and/or energy drinks. Try to drink as much water as you can all day long. Other things you can drink include some milk and real juice, but water should be your main daily beverage.

Keep your levels under control if you are a diabetic.

If you have diabetes, then this can be contributing to the problem. There are so many reasons way you want to make sure you are always watching your levels closely and making sure you stay on top of your diabetes, but now you can also add preventing more gum receding to the mix.

Once you get to the dentist you can get to the bottom of what's really going on with your receding gums. However, following the tips in this article won't do any harm and are all healthy tips.

About Me

Dental Veneers Changed My Life

I have never liked my teeth. I had a lot of dental problems, including deep staining and oddly shaped teeth. Every tooth did not have the same shape, and some were rounded while others were more square. Not surprisingly, I never smiled in pictures and not even much in real life. This left people thinking I was mean before they even met me. My dentist told me my best bet to improve the look of my smile was a set of porcelain dental veneers. He said they could make all my teeth white and the same shape. I said I wanted them without any hesitation, and we scheduled my procedures. I love my new teeth, and they really did change my life. I created this blog to help other people living with teeth they don't like realize that they do have options that can improve their smiles and their lives.
