5 Tips For Keeping Your Teeth White

by Harold Coleman

It is no secret that a white smile is considered attractive in society. However, many different things, such as dark-colored foods and beverages, can leave stains on teeth over time. If your teeth aren't as white as you want them to be, you may feel a little insecure. However, you can do several things at home to brighten up your teeth.

Say No to Dark-Colored Foods and Beverages

Dark-colored foods and drinks contain dark compounds that can be absorbed by your enamel. If you consume them often enough, you could end up with stained teeth. It is best to avoid coffee, tea, curry sauce, and other foods and drinks that can stain your teeth. If you just can't resist that cup of coffee in the morning or red sauce in your pasta, at least rinse your mouth out with water afterward.

Drink Through a Straw

There may be times when you feel like drinking a soda or glass of red wine. You can minimize staining on your teeth by drinking these beverages through a straw. If you use a straw, less of the liquid will touch the surfaces of your teeth.

Mash Some Strawberries

Strawberries are more than just a delicious, healthy snack. The malic acid in this fruit can help whiten your teeth. Use a fork to mash up one strawberry and then gently rub it on the surfaces of your teeth. Wait about five minutes before you wash the strawberry off your teeth.

Start Eating Crunchy Fruits and Veggies

If you do not already include apples, carrots, and celery in your diet, you may want to start. These foods are so abrasive in texture that they can help remove plaque and stains from your teeth.

Try Baking Soda

Baking soda is so versatile, and you likely already have some in your house somewhere. Did you know this white powder can help whiten your teeth? It does not hurt to give it a try! Mix in just a pinch of baking soda with your toothpaste and brush your teeth like normal. If you do this once every day, you may notice results within a couple weeks or so.

If you follow these helpful tips, it is possible to achieve that white smile you have always dreamed about. However, if your teeth still aren't as white as you want them to be, ask a dentist like Frederic J Mrugala DDS  about professional whitening treatments.

About Me

Dental Veneers Changed My Life

I have never liked my teeth. I had a lot of dental problems, including deep staining and oddly shaped teeth. Every tooth did not have the same shape, and some were rounded while others were more square. Not surprisingly, I never smiled in pictures and not even much in real life. This left people thinking I was mean before they even met me. My dentist told me my best bet to improve the look of my smile was a set of porcelain dental veneers. He said they could make all my teeth white and the same shape. I said I wanted them without any hesitation, and we scheduled my procedures. I love my new teeth, and they really did change my life. I created this blog to help other people living with teeth they don't like realize that they do have options that can improve their smiles and their lives.
