Simple Tips To Help Your Toddler's Dental Apointment Go Smoothly

by Harold Coleman

Taking your child to the dentist can be nerve wracking enough. However, when your child is a toddler that has a lot of energy it can be even more difficult. By being creative and taking some extra steps when planning your child's trip to the dentist, you can make the entire appointment go much better for both of you, as well as for the dental staff.

Work with your child's schedule

Pay especially close attention to your child's behavior during the day. Look for the time of day when they seem to be the most content. This will be the time of day when you will find them quietly coloring or sitting in front of cartoons for an extended period of time. This is a good time to make their appointment.

If you can't pinpoint the best time of the day, then you should try for an appointment that's right after the open the dental office in the morning, or right after they reopen from taking their lunch. They should be the first one seen by the dentist. The more time you are able to cut off their visit, the less you will have to chase them around.

Tire them out

Another way you can go about preparing your toddler for an easy dental visit is to wear them out. If you find there's a long wait in the dentist office then you can tell the staff you will be outside when they call your child back. Bring a ball with you and play ball with them in an area that's away from traffic. By playing outside with your child you will help them burn off energy and pass the time without them being cooped up bored in the waiting room.

Bring a new coloring book

Get a new coloring book and set of crayons for your little one before their appointment. Don't let them see it until you are in the office. This way, they will be excited to color their new book and it will keep them focused on something other than the long wait.

By following some of this advice, you should have an easier time with your toddler in the office. This will make the visit less stressful on you and it will make it easier for the dentist to get the exam done without taking a lot of unnecessary time to try to get your child to settle down while they are in the chair.

About Me

Dental Veneers Changed My Life

I have never liked my teeth. I had a lot of dental problems, including deep staining and oddly shaped teeth. Every tooth did not have the same shape, and some were rounded while others were more square. Not surprisingly, I never smiled in pictures and not even much in real life. This left people thinking I was mean before they even met me. My dentist told me my best bet to improve the look of my smile was a set of porcelain dental veneers. He said they could make all my teeth white and the same shape. I said I wanted them without any hesitation, and we scheduled my procedures. I love my new teeth, and they really did change my life. I created this blog to help other people living with teeth they don't like realize that they do have options that can improve their smiles and their lives.
