Ginger Fun! An Oral-Enhancing Treat Your Family Can Enjoy

by Harold Coleman

Keeping your family's oral health in good condition does take a commitment. You have to keep up with regular dental visits, and you have to make sure everyone is keeping up with their oral care regimen. Yet, these commitments may not include sweets. But the following sweet ginger chews recipe will fix that.

The Oral-Enhancing Secrets Behind The Ginger Chews

Pay attention to the following oral-enhancing ingredients:

1. Xylitol

The first ingredient you need to pay attention to is the natural sugar that you will use to coat your ginger chews. Oral pathogens, as your dentist has probably told you, feed on carbohydrates like processed sugars. Bacteria, once fed, start to produce volatile compounds and acids that can cause dental ailments, like bad breath, tooth erosion, cavities, and gingivitis.

Harmful bacteria cannot consume Xylitol because they are unable to break it down. So switching to this sugar should help keep your family's mouth a tad bit safer from bacteria.

2. Raw Honey

This sweetener can also help keep your family's mouth safe from bacteria. The catch is it has to be raw honey, which you can purchase online, your local health food store, your local bee farm, or your farmer's market. You should consider raw honey for two reasons: One, the honey contains enzymes that help disrupt the reproductive abilities of oral pathogens. The second reason that raw honey is helpful is because it is highly osmotic. That means the honey will dehydrate the bacteria in your mouth to death.

3. Alkaline Water

This one might sound strange, but the water your family consumes can keep their oral health in tip-top shape. Most water sold has a neutral or low pH value. This is important because the bacteria in your mouth need an environment that has a low pH value to survive and flourish. Alkaline water contains a high pH value and should help rebalance the pH value in your mouth. That will effectively make your family's mouth uninhabitable to bacteria.

Remember that these dental-friendly ingredients should be added to more than just this recipe. You can stop using processed sugars that help feed cavity-causing bacteria. Just remember that these ingredients are preventative and are not meant to cure dental ailments.

Recipe For Your Oral-Enhancing Ginger Chews

You will need the following:

  • 1/2 lb of fresh ginger
  • 2 cups of fresh alkaline water
  • 1 and 1/4 a cup of raw honey
  • Xylitol

Steps:

  1. Peel your ginger, and then slice it as thin as possible.
  2. Use a small pot to bring the ginger slices to a boil in the alkaline water. Immediately cover your pot, and bring the ginger down to a simmer. Let that simmer for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue to let it simmer for 10 more minutes or until soft.
  3. Drain the water, leaving 1/4 a cup of water inside. Add your honey at this point, and let it continue to simmer for another 30 minutes. The ginger slices should turn translucent and slightly brown.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the ginger slices. Use your Xylitol to sprinkle over your slices, and you are done.

This candy should last your entire family a few weeks, unless you can't resist them. To learn more about dental care, visit West Lakes Family Dentistry

About Me

Dental Veneers Changed My Life

I have never liked my teeth. I had a lot of dental problems, including deep staining and oddly shaped teeth. Every tooth did not have the same shape, and some were rounded while others were more square. Not surprisingly, I never smiled in pictures and not even much in real life. This left people thinking I was mean before they even met me. My dentist told me my best bet to improve the look of my smile was a set of porcelain dental veneers. He said they could make all my teeth white and the same shape. I said I wanted them without any hesitation, and we scheduled my procedures. I love my new teeth, and they really did change my life. I created this blog to help other people living with teeth they don't like realize that they do have options that can improve their smiles and their lives.
