A Healthy Soft Food Meal Plan After Getting New Braces

by Harold Coleman

For many people, new braces can make it hard to smile, breathe, and even eat. Thankfully, there are a wide variety of soft foods you can eat to avoid going hungry while you suffer from braces pain.  Follow this basic meal plan to get through this difficult healing process.

Breakfast

Start by making a healthy helping of soft breakfast oats. You can use either quick oats or slow-cook oats: it doesn't matter much. Just make sure you cook them until they are soft and mushy to the touch. A pair of pancakes complement breakfast oats well, especially if you reduce your cooking time a little to keep them soft. Try to use all-wheat pancake mix for the healthiest (and tastiest) results.

For a drink, puree an orange, banana, and a few strawberries. This will give you a healthy dose of fruits and a great burst of natural fruit energy that will help speed up your healing process. Avoid milk, as it can actually cause an increase of saliva in your mouth and increased mouth pain.

Lunch

Long before you get your braces installed, you should start slow preparing some black beans. The black bean preparation process can take a few days of soaking and cooking, but its so worth it. Black beans can be used in a dozen or more different recipes or can simply be eaten as is for a great dose of instant energy and high protein.

On the side, include a serving of minty spring pea puree. This treat can help give you a dose of vegetables that won't crack your braces or increase your pain. It's a relatively simple recipe and one that will keep you salivating for days!

Dinner

Your dinner should be a relatively simple mixture of items, including plenty of vegetables. Vegetables are filled with vitamins and minerals that will help alleviate your pain. A brothy vegetable soup is one of the best ways to introduce vegetables into your diet. Just make sure to let them cook long enough to become soft in the broth. You can also try tomato juice, mashed avocado, and guacamole!

Snack Suggestions

Jello has long been the go to snack for those suffering from orthodontic pain. Its soft, yet tasty, healing nature is increased when its cooled in a refrigerator for several minutes. Other healthy soft snacks include soft, oven baked pretzels covered in hummus. Lay off the salt and use only all-wheat pretzel dough to make this a truly healthy snack.

As you can see, there are quite a few different healthy soft foods you can turn to while you wait for your your pain to subside. Talk to your orthodontic expert, like Crest Hill Family Dental, sooner, rather than later, if you experience severe pain over an extended period. There may be something wrong with your braces.

About Me

Dental Veneers Changed My Life

I have never liked my teeth. I had a lot of dental problems, including deep staining and oddly shaped teeth. Every tooth did not have the same shape, and some were rounded while others were more square. Not surprisingly, I never smiled in pictures and not even much in real life. This left people thinking I was mean before they even met me. My dentist told me my best bet to improve the look of my smile was a set of porcelain dental veneers. He said they could make all my teeth white and the same shape. I said I wanted them without any hesitation, and we scheduled my procedures. I love my new teeth, and they really did change my life. I created this blog to help other people living with teeth they don't like realize that they do have options that can improve their smiles and their lives.
